Mission Statement: As a dedicated school community, student learning is our primary responsibility; we implement a visionary and developmentally appropriate curriculum that recognizes and nurtures the full intellectual, emotional, physical, and development of each child.
Greenland Elementary School opened its doors in 1959. Located in the heart of Oconomowoc, Greenland Elementary is within walking distance to Fowler Lake and Lac La Belle.
Our community of learners is made up of outstanding students, an expert, and dedicated staff of caring professionals, and an involved parent community. Presently, there are approximately 400 students enrolled in grades four year old kindergarten through fourth grade. The Greenland staff is comprised of 50 professional staff members. Greenland Elementary School has a strong tradition of supportive, hardworking parents. Parents have the opportunity to develop the home and school partnership in a variety of ways. Parents volunteer in classrooms, chaperone field trips, and join the PTO. Our PTO, led by Lori Naylor, creates amazing opportunities for the Greenland community. Students and families have the opportunity to participate in movie nights, all school dances, book fairs, and “Greenland Games.” This year, the PTO donated $10,000 to help update the school library.
For the last 3 years, Greenland has been recognized by the Wisconsin RtI Center. In 2015 and 2016, Greenland was recognized as a School of Distinction. In order to be recognized the PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports) teams accomplished the following: Implemented critical elements of tier 1/universal PBIS with fidelity, used data within a problem solving team to make decisions, and self-assessed to plan for future work.
In addition to the rich, positive, behavior programming, Greenland is proud of its strong academic programming where readers, writers, mathematicians, scientists, explorers, critical thinkers, and inquirers are grown. Students have their personalized learning needs met through the readers’ and writers’ workshop model.
Staff members at Greenland are dedicated to perfecting their instructional craft. Teachers collaborate with others in professional learning communities, participate in professional development in and outside of the school district, and contribute to professional learning networks. As a learning community, we will build our capacity in the areas of universal design, co-teaching, and instructional delivery practices.
Our school theme this year is “Going for the Gold at Greenland.” The 2017-2018 school year promises to be an exciting journey. Please feel free to call, email, or stop by the office. I look forward to serving the students, families, and staff of Greenland Elementary School.
