Absence Reporting Information & Illness Guidelines for 2020-21

This school year, it’s more important than ever to keep children home if they’re sick and accurately notify your child’s school of the absence.  There are two ways that families can report a student’s absence to school, either by calling the school attendance line or using the Skyward Family Access system.  If your child is sick and you need help understanding what to do next, please read the information below.

If Your Child Is Ill, These Guidelines Can Help You Decide What to Do Next

We strongly encourage you to monitor your child’s health continually. It’s important to be mindful of any illness symptoms that your child may have before sending them to school. Please keep your child home if they are ill.

  • If you need information on how to contact your school attendance line, please read more about those options below.
  • If you need help understanding when your child should return to school, these documents and video can help.

Contemplated Absences/Vacation Requests

In accordance with Wisconsin Statutes, Section 118.15, a student may be excused for no more than 10 days of pre-planned absences per school year. A Contemplated Absence Form is required to be completed prior to a student’s planned absences, such as vacations.

Contemplated Absence Forms are available in the school office, or you can click here to download a fillable form.

Student absence requests should be submitted to the OHS Attendance Office window inside the main office or emailed to ohsattendance@oasd.org one week in advance of the planned absence.  The Principal will consider the absence request for possible approval.

Families will be notified if their request is not approved or if additional information is needed to consider the request.  If the absence is approved, the Attendance Office will excuse attendance for the dates approved and will notify the family that their request has been approved.  Please ensure the form is complete prior to turning the form into the Attendance Office.  Incomplete forms may not be approved.
A student who is absent from school will be given the opportunity to complete coursework and assessments missed during the absences, with due dates set by the teacher. A schedule for work or assessments missed should be developed with each teacher immediately upon return.  It is the responsibility of the student and parent to make arrangements for all missed work.  Students and parents need to be aware that many classroom activities cannot be replicated.
