Elementary Schools
Artistic and musical experiences begin in 4-year-old kindergarten and throughout elementary school. Students in third and fourth grade present their own school musicals. Some OASD elementary schools produce a talent show or offer movie maker, news or yearbook clubs, in which students produce end-of-the-year celebration videos, news broadcasts or the school yearbook.
Intermediate Schools
In the intermediate grades, students perform their school musicals on the stage of the Oconomowoc Arts Center. All fifth and sixth graders take art and their choice of band, choir, orchestra or general music, plus optional design and digital communications classes. Seventh and eighth graders have a wider array of music, art and design classes. Intermediate students also can join extracurricular activities including jazz band, choir, art club, photography club, yearbook, dance, musical revues, forensics and musical tech crews.
Oconomowoc High School
At Oconomowoc High School (OHS), students can select from a plethora of classes or clubs including jazz combo, rockestra, play production or art metals and jewelry. Other offerings include yearbook, photography club, digital design, Thespian Society, Tri-M Music Honor Society and vocal jazz and pop. Check out these arts opportunities available to all students!
PERFORMING ARTS
The OHS Players, under the direction of Tiersa Ferraro, perform throughout the school year. They present a musical at the Oconomowoc Arts Center every fall and several stage shows throughout the year. For the last 15 years, the OHS fall musical has been nominated for and won several Jerry Awards for the quality and talent of our students and staff in the musical theater program.
BANDS
The OHS Band program is second to none and has traveled around the world to play for invitation-only crowds. Under the direction of Jason Gillette and Dan Henkel, students at OHS have access to the Symphonic Band, Concert Band, and Wind Symphony, along with the Jazz Band, Marching Band, Pep Band, and the opportunity to audition for the Pit Orchestra in the Fall Musical.
CHOIRS
The Choir program at OHS has a long history of musical excellence and is led by Beth Kauffeld. Students are able to participate in the Choraliers, Concert Choir or audition for the Golden Gals.
ORCHESTRA
OHS also offers opportunities for students who play a stringed instrument in our Orchestra program, led by Rebecca Fix. Students can join the OHS Orchestra or audition for the Pit Orchestra in the Fall Musical.
VISUAL ARTS AND DESIGN
The Visual Arts and Design program offers students traditional and innovative avenues for gaining experience in the visual arts. Students have the opportunity to pursue drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, and photography, in addition to newer classes like advertising and design, industrial design, and the Adobe Suite, all of which lay a foundation of artistic skills. Students can then hone their talents and creative problem-solving processes in advanced drawing and painting, advanced ceramics, and advanced photography, as well as AP art and design, where students can choose between a drawing, 2D, or 3D portfolio for submission. Every class gives students the chance to display their work in formal galleries and digital portfolios.
