Regardless of a student’s medical condition, its management within the school setting is a shared responsibility. This partnership begins with parents/guardians informing the school of any health condition that could potentially present a problem and providing District Health Services with current medical documentation and required authorization as outlined in the District medication policy. The District will follow applicable laws that apply to students with identified health conditions and implement a medical management plan as indicated by the student’s health care provider. Students and families are encouraged to be proactive in planning for the care and management of their allergies based on their developmental level in addition to collaborating with their school to ensure that management is continuous throughout their school day.
Creating an Allergy Aware Environment
The Oconomowoc Area School District is committed to providing a safe and healthy learning environment for students with severe or life-threatening allergies. While it is not possible to reduce the risk to zero, the following list of precautions offers ways to minimize the risk and allow the student with anaphylaxis to attend school with relative confidence. Each school will make every reasonable effort to provide the students with allergies a safe environment by eliminating the use of allergens in meals, educational tools, arts and crafts projects, and incentives.
