Originally built in 1956, portions of Ixonia Elementary School were renovated and expanded as part of the 2016 referendum. Enrollment projections at that time suggested limited growth in the Ixonia area due in part to the Town of Ixonia's wastewater treatment plant having limited capacity to support additional housing development.
Despite those projections, the Ixonia area has grown over the last five years and school enrollment has exceeded the functional capacity of Ixonia Elementary School. To meet the increase in students, the school has continued the use of two temporary modular classrooms and also uses spaces originally designed for small-group learning as permanent offices and instructional spaces.
Federal guidelines for sewer wastewater treatment plants have changed, and the Town's current system can no longer meet those guidelines. As a result, the Town is building a new plant which should be operational by 2024. The system is being built to accommodate the new housing growth that the Town of Ixonia is anticipating once the treatment plant is operational.
Our recent enrollment study forecasts more growth in the Ixonia area because of the expanding sewer capacity which will generate more housing development.
